Accessibility

This website is run by Leicester Haymarket Theatre, on behalf of Leicester City Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’re also making the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • navigating using just a keyboard can be difficult in some areas
  • you can’t modify the line height or spacing of text
  • when zoomed in and selecting the menu, you cannot see all the menu items
  • not all pdf documents are accessible to screen reader software
  • some online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • video content may not contain captions
  • the ticket booking functionality has some accessibility issues

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leicester City Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below mainly relates to the booking side of our website and is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • The cookies control functionality has no accessible label. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2.
  • The cookies pop-up, when expended, has no visible focus indicator on the button to close the pop-up. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7.
  • Certain fields do not clearly identify input errors and the error descriptions are too generic. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.3.
  • Time limitations in the booking process are not clearly identified and no warnings are given in advance. This is also no option to extend the time limit of 20 minutes. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 and 2.2.1.
  • Some pages are missing primary heading or do not include a title element in the headings. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 and 2.4.2.
  • The seating plan is reliant on colour only and the seat selection functionality is inaccessible to keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.1 and 2.1.1.
  • Some pages do not reflow at zoom levels of 400%+. The WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10.

We are working with our ticketing partner to fix these issues as soon as we can.
